Okay, so I've had a few people ask me about my recent hair loss. It isn't something I relish pointing out, but since it is now very noticable, it's not as if I'm remaining incognito anyway. So, here goes.....ugly photos to follow! I'm currently supplementing my diet with Biotin and Omega-3 fish oil. I have no idea if it's helping or not, but it at least makes me feel like I'm doing something about it!
I've always had super thick, long hair - I'm a natural redhead, so my hair tended to be curly and wavy and fuzzy in different areas. Now it's grey, and since the recent hair loss, my hair is very fine, flat, and a dull silky. The texture drives me crazy - I can't hardly do anything with it and it looks ratty nasty all the time. It is still long right now, but because it's so see-through, I need to get it cut really short and hope it poufs up somewhat. If it doesn't, I'll need to fork out $300-$500 for a good wig to cover the whole mess up until it (HOPEFULLY!) recovers one day!
This photo illustrates the clump of hair that comes out during showering. I also lose about half to three-quarters of this pile any time I brush my hair. Now, mind you, this isn't every single shower and every single hair brushing....but it is quite frequent. It seems to go in stages - I might go for a few days and lose a normal amount of hair, and then have four or five days of large amounts of hair loss. What is illustrated here is the heaviest amount lost at one time.
Same day, this is my hair while still wet.
And this is my hair after it has dried.
Here is the right side view....
...and the left side view.
Another thing to note is that these photos were taken when it was just becoming noticable to others. The photos were all taken on 12/19/2009, so I've about doubled the amount of hairloss at this point in January. :(
